Basically, here is what this all means.. I was selected to be a delegate in the 2008 Pageant, meaning, I was chosen to be a contestant to represent a Nigerian state (Abuja) and to compete to become the 2008 Miss Nigeria In America! Out of at least 60+ applications that were submitted, 16 ladies were finally chosen to be in the competition. Abuja state was selected as my state to represent because it is not a state any of my family are from. MNIA's goal is not only promoting the education of Nigerian women, but also teaching us to learn about somewhere we are not particularly from in order to bring down these barriers that still continue to divide us.. The competition requires us to choose an organization to volunteer our time to and write a 1-2 page journal on our experience on a weekly basis. I chose to volunteer at the L.A. Foodbank, where we sort, pack, and distribute food items to charities that serve the less fortunate. In addition to our weekly journals, we are required to write 3-6 page reports every week on any given topic that is emailed to us. These by far have proven to be the most challenging while taking two 6-week summer courses as well. But on August 30, 2008 we will all finally see the fruits of our labor, all on one massive stage and by putting on one heck of a show.. I have chosen the piano as my talent and will be performing a song that I wrote many years ago. I hope you all enjoy it! I have also prepared myself for all aspects of the pageant: business attire, swimsuit, traditional wear, and evening gown segments. I will check into the Embassy Suites the Wednesday before the pageant, and will remain there until Sunday morning.
